Pardon me while I slip into ‘old-man-yelling-at-clouds’ mode, but it’s true. Facebook is horrible and on this blog, I plan on diving into the subject of why it is harmful and what to do about it.
I’m addicted. Terribly addicted to Facebook. It’s the first page I visit in the morning and the last page I close at night. I’m on it for hours a day… I doom-scroll, I share memes (both publicly and privately), I post my thoughts and jokes and original artwork, I feed the machine, … I am Facebook.
I need help. If you’re reading this on FB, you probably do too.
This is not me saying goodbye. … Not yet. But I’m not going to try to seriously cut-back, and eventually find a better way to spend my time. I’ve known I’ve had a problem for quite a while but now I really want to try to understand it and correct it.
My problem(s) with FB in a nutshell:
It’s Addictive.
I didn’t do this without Zuckerberg’s help… smarter people than I have figured out how to manipulate me in ways I obviously can’t combat. FB keeps you on and it keeps you coming back. This has been explained better by others… like this:

So there’s that. I don’t like being controlled. I never have. FB is controlling me.
The ads.
So many fucking ads.. And so repetitive.. And targeted.. I’ve bought things because FB knows what I want .. but I didn’t want it until I saw it on FB… see how that works? …which goes back to my prior point… When Facebook started, there were no ads. …He got us hooked, then jacked up the price.
…“But facebook is free” you say. …Remember kids: If something is free, you’re the product.
The Politics
Facebook is intentionally pushing a MAGA-Right Wing agenda.
(I will get into this deeper in the future… but yeah, you may have noticed)
The Exodus
There are just a fraction of the cool people on FB that used to be on Facebook. So many of my friends have quit social media and I don’t hear any of them complaining. I hardly hear them all unfortunately. … I miss them and it’s just not as fun anymore.
The Echo Chamber
Ok, I’m convinced…trump is bad… I get it… enough.
The same pictures and news tidbits are regurgitated by shit posters (like me) ad-nauseum. I don’t need anymore people agreeing with me and me agreeing with them. If we all agree, then let’s move on to the next step.
The Complete and Total Loss of Privacy

So I’m going to try to beat this thing but it doesn’t mean the end of my internet presence. There are alternatives,…there are other websites and other social outlets that a person can enjoy.
